This 3 days Mgahinga gorillas and the golden monkey is an interesting safari that you are not supposed to miss while on your visit to Uganda and particularly in Mgahinga national park the home of both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys hence the slogan, ” Where gold meets silver”.
The safari
takes you to where you will do gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking in
the same park. The safari will start from Entebbe airport to the park from
where you will drive after trekking and then depart from Kigali airport in
Rwanda.

Itinerary
Day 1:
Transfer to Mgahinga National Park from Entebbe airport
Upon your
arrival at the airport, your experienced safari driver guide will be ready for
your pickup and will give you a quick summary of the safari after which drive
heading to southwestern Uganda in Mgahinga national park a journey that will
take will take you a distance of 7-8 hours’ drive having some stopovers at key
points, like Mpambire drum makers where you will have a look of how drums are
made from animal skins, at the equator in Kayabwe where you will have some
photographs on two parts of the world and these are the southern and northern
hemisphere. Proceed with the journey having your second stopover in Mbarara
city and having your lunch at Igongo cultural centre. Check-in at your booked
lodge for your dinner and rest
Day 2:
Mountain gorilla trekking.
On the second
day of your safari, have breakfast at your lodge and then after head to the
park’s main entry point for briefing from the park officials. The briefing will
give you a chance to ask every question regarding the activity.
After the
briefing, an armed ranger guide will lead you to the jungle and start looking
for these gorillas. The trek usually lasts for 1-8 hours depending on the
movements made by these giant animals note that immediately after reaching
these animals an extra one hour will be given to you in their presence. Return
to the office for a trekking certificate. drive to the lodge for lunch and
relaxation.
Day 3: Golden
monkey trekking. Transfer from Mgahinga national park to Kigali and fly back
home.
This is the
last day of your 3 days of Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkeys. Begin it with
your breakfast at the lodge and then head to the park for golden monkey
trekking. Mgahinga is the only national park in Uganda where mountain gorillas
co-exist with the golden monkeys hence the slogan, “where gold meets silver”.
The activity usually takes 2-3 hours and as soon as you land on them, an extra hour will be given to you in the presence of these monkeys. Since these primates are jumpy you need to keep steady in order to capture the attention of these monkeys. Return to your lodge to check out and immediately cross to Rwanda’s Kigali airport for an exit flight back home.
