This short Uganda wildlife tour includes a game drive and boat tour in Lake Mburo Park where a variety of wildlife both terrestrial and aquatic species will be spotted.
Lake Mburo National
Park is Uganda’s special wildlife park, and also the most accessible
destination from the city center. Driving from the heart of Kampala to L. Mburo
National Park takes 4 hours (240km) along Masaka-Mbarara highway. Lake Mburo
N/Park lies in Western Uganda in Mbarara, Isingiro and Kiruhura districts,
supporting more than 68 species of mammals including buffaloes, leopards,
zebras, bushpigs, oribis, jackals, hyenas, kobs, klipspringers, topis, cape
elands, impalas, and over 350 bird species.

Park is a rich ecosystem with a unique landscape characterized by rolling
hills, lush savanna grassland, seasonal swamps, Lakes, and forests. These are
ideal habitats for the park’s diversity of wildlife.

Itinerary.
Day one:
Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park for a boat cruise.
Delicious
breakfast will be enjoyed while in a comfortable place of stay in Kampala or
Entebbe. After a leisurely breakfast, get briefed about your short game viewing
tour to Lake Mburo N/P, board your 4×4 tourist car and start your trip along
the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara route for about 4 hours.
A stopover
will be made once you have reached Kayabwe for you to take pictures at the
Equator crossing and then continue to Lake Mburo N/Park for an en-route game
drive to your lodge where lunch will be served. En-route game drive will let
you see a variety of wildlife such as elands, zebras, birds, and others.
In the
afternoon (2:00 pm), drive to where a boat tour will begin on Lake Mburo, the
biggest lake in this park. This recreation activity will have you exposed to
aquatic life, and Lake Mburo is known for its huge concentration of hippos,
crocodiles and aquatic birds like fish eagles.
Day two: Game
drive & travel back to Kampala/Entebbe.
Heavy
breakfast will be enjoyed and after, begin your memorable guided game drive
through the golden savanna trails of Lake Mburo National Park taking about 2-3
hours in a 4×4 safari vehicle. This special game-viewing tour comes with
remarkable sightings of Burchell’s zebras, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, lions,
giraffes, warthogs, bird species, and more.
For bird
lovers, Lake Mburo N/P is home to endemic and near-endemic species, and some of
the birds to identify include the blue-headed coucal, African scops owl,
African finfoot, papyrus gonoleks, bare-faced go-away bird, papyrus yellow
warblers, shoebill stork, white-winged swamp warblers, brown-chested lapwing,
mosque swallow, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, and others.
After your
2-3 hours game drive, retreat and you will check out of the lodge with packed
lunch or you will drive to Masaka to settle at a hotel to have lunch. As you
exit Lake Mburo N/P, you will be spotting more animals and birds. There will be
another chance of taking photos at the Equator crossing on your way back to
Kampala/Entebbe.
